When we renovate an apartment, we put tremendous care into getting every detail just right. Yet, sometimes the perfect finishing touches only reveal themselves with time. Amore has always been one of those special vacation rentals in Florence. With its unforgettable wraparound terrace, magnificent views and light-filled interiors, it has been a guest favorite from the moment the renovation was complete. You can see the original before and after transformation of this beautiful two-bedroom, two-bathroom vacation rental here.
Over time, and with guests enjoying the space, we began to see opportunities for subtle refinements. These were the kind of finishing touches that create even more comfort, bring the outdoors in and make a beautiful apartment feel even more complete. Our latest updates at Amore aren’t a reinvention, but a new look shaped by design, color and Florence itself.
Join us for a closer look at what’s new at Amore – and why we’re falling for this Florence favorite all over again!
Bringing Natural Colors into the Living Room
The living room at Amore was always warm and welcoming. The deep colored terracotta floor tiles set a rich foundation, paired with modern leather armchairs that echoed their warmth. A beige sofa and rug kept the space light, while a large antique mirror in a gilded frame above the sofa added elegance with gold accent pillows to tie it all together beautifully. It was a room that felt refined and comfortable from the very beginning – and we knew we wanted to preserve that balance.
BEFORE: The living room was well balanced, but we wanted to bring more of the natural colors of the terrace inside.
But last year, as we stood in the living room looking out toward the terrace, something became clear. The views were filled with green—potted plants and the rolling hills beyond Florence—and yet inside, that lush natural palette was only hinted at. We began to imagine what it would feel like if the colors of the terrace flowed into the room.
The spark for the new design came in the most unexpected way. During a visit, Italy Perfect founder Lisa noticed an empty Gucci shopping bag left behind by a guest. That unmistakable, rich green—vibrant yet natural—was exactly the tone the room had been waiting for. It worked beautifully with the terracotta floors and the harvest gold accents we already loved. The idea took hold instantly!
From other renovations, we new guests loved the L-shaped chaise sofa, so we searched for the perfect one in that deep green. To enhance the connection to the outdoors, we added a landscape-inspired wallpaper with abstract greens that echo the terrace plantings. We love how the apartment feels brighter and warmer – all with only making careful changes to the decor.
We kept what we loved—the antique mirror, the golden accents, the leather chairs that continue the warmth of the floors—and layered in color and texture that reflect Florence itself. A framed Hermès scarf, one Lisa had been holding onto in Florence for just the right opportunity, found its perfect home here. With its green, warm orange tones and touches of gold, it feels as though it was designed especially for Amore.
A Light & Bright Dining Space
One of the features we’ve always loved about Amore is its open-plan living design. The dining area sits conveniently near the large windows, just beside the charming kitchen and only steps from the terrace. It’s ideal for gathering, lingering over a meal and moving easily between dining indoors and out on the terrace.
BEFORE: The dining chairs matched the decor, but caught the eye too much.
Previously, the beige upholstered chairs with black legs worked beautifully with the earlier palette, grounding the space with warmth. But as the living room evolved into a brighter, more terrace-inspired design, they began to feel visually heavy. The solution was surprisingly simple: replacing them with clear, iconic modern chairs.
The white tulip table has long been a favorite element. Its sculptural simplicity complements the apartment’s modern touches and keeps the focus on the view beyond. With the recent refresh, we wanted to preserve that clean, contemporary feel while allowing more light to flow through the room.
BEFORE: The dining area before the latest redesign.
Now, the eye moves from the green sofa through the dining space and toward the large windows overlooking Florence. The result is lighter, airier and more open – a dining area that feels perfectly in tune with Amore’s new look.
From the very beginning, one thing at Amore has always been perfect: the view. Whether enjoying a quiet breakfast inside or gathering around the table on the terrace, there’s nothing quite like dining with a view of Florence’s rooftops and Brunelleschi’s magnificent dome of the Duomo in the distance.
A New Look for Bedroom 1
In the primary bedroom, the goal was simple: bring in more light while enhancing the warmth that was already there. The room has always been comfortable and well laid out, but the original black wardrobe—while excellent for storage—added visual weight. Replacing it with a new wardrobe in white that maximizes space and incorporates open shelving immediately made the room feel larger and more open.
BEFORE: The dark wardrobe was distinctive, but we decided to go lighter with the new decor.
A wallpaper panel behind the headboard now creates a warm visual center, adding depth and richness while anchoring the bed. The rug that was once in the living room has found a new home here, and we love the warmth and texture it brings to the room.
Opposite the bed, a large antique mirror reflects natural light and soft tones throughout the room, amplifying brightness and enhancing the sense of space. The result is a primary bedroom that feels more spacious and beautifully in harmony with Amore’s new design.
BEFORE: We loved the design, but wanted to add a large mirror for even more light.
Bedroom 2 Inspired by the Florentine Sky
The second bedroom already had a rich and inviting palette we loved with its jewel-toned blues in the headboard and bed frame, velvet gold accents and the same beautiful terracotta floors that run throughout the apartment. The room felt warm and layered, but visually it needed a stronger focal point, much like we created in the primary bedroom.
BEFORE: A bright space, but it needed some finishing details.
The solution came in the form of a soft landscape wallpaper with gentle tones of blue sky and distant horizon. Because the bed faces the window, the effect is especially meaningful. As Lisa shared during the redesign, “When you’re lying in bed here, you naturally look toward the sky. In a medieval city like Florence, where the historic streets can feel narrow, that sense of openness is something special.”
The wallpaper echoes that feeling—expansive yet serene—creating a visual center that enhances the room’s tones while bringing a sense of light and calm. It’s a subtle Florentine touch that makes waking up at Amore feel even more magical.
